Driver’s Licence:

A Driver’s Licence is a legal document that confers on a driver the right to drive. The minimum age for driving is 18 year while the terminal age for driving in Nigeria is 70 years.

You are required to carry your driving licence with you at all times when driving. The rules of the road are available at National Traffic Regulation 2012

OBTAINING LEARNER’S PERMIT

  • Obtain form MVA 15
  • Pay prescribed fee
  • Attend a driving school approved by FRSC
  • You must obtain a pass from driving school with third issue learners permit
  • Drive for at least 3 months accompanied by an Instructor who is a licensed driver
  • Affix ‘L’ sign on the front and rear of the vehicle
  • Tested by the appropriate authority after the third issue of the learners permit for a period not less than 3 months.

Obtaining a Driver Licence for the First Time: The process.

Step 1: Attend training at an accredited driving school.Click on the link to find accredited driving schools in your state  Accredited driving Schools

Step 2: The driving school will then present you to the to Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) for a driving test.

Step 3: Pass the driving test and obtain a certificate of proficiency from the VIO.

Step 4: Complete the driver’s licence application form at the Driver’s Licence Centre (DLC).

Step 5: Pay the licence fee online or at the Bank. (The new driver’s license costs N6,000.)

Step 6: Present your application form to the Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) Officer and VIO at the DLC

for endorsement.

Step 7: Proceed to the FRSC Officer at the DLC for biometric data capture.

Step 8: Obtain a temporary driver’s licence valid for 60 days.

Step 9: Pick up original driver’s licence at the BIR Office after 60 days.

Step 4: Proceed to the Federal Road Safety Corps Officer at the DLC for biometric data capture.

Step 5: Obtain a temporary driver’s licence valid for 60 days.

Step 6: Pick up original driver’s licence at the BIR Office after  60 days.
